On July 12th, Barcelona will host the first edition of the Afrobeats Barcelona Festival. The festival aims to become a reference of the most urban and technological music of today's Africa.
On the 12th of July, the Apolo hall in Barcelona will host the first edition of Afrobeats Barcelona Festival. This event, which this year celebrates its birth, proposes a day of more than 7 hours of music full of vitality based on musical shows of African origin and in which attendees will enjoy many artists and bands. As headliners, the festival will bring to Barcelona the prestigious band Ogun Afrobeat, as well as different bands of Afrobeat, Afropop, and the Afrobeats generation led by the artist DE9.
About the event
With this first edition, Afrobeats Barcelona Festival intends to give the floor to a modern and emerging Africa, in which the public can enjoy a series of live concerts, a more electronic session dedicated to the new trends of African music as well as some Afrobeats dance shows. As main artists, the festival has invited Ogun Afrobeat, an outstanding band from Madrid led by Nigerian drummer Akin Dimeji, direct disciple of the Kuti dynasty, which among other things, he has been awarded in prestigious events such as the Guilles awards or the Tanjazz festival. With them the Afrobeat will have a prominent role in the Festival. The Afrobeat is a genre born in the 70s in the streets of Lagos, Nigeria, by the hand of the legendary saxophonist Fela Kuti. It is probably one of the African classic genres that has transcended the most in the global music scene, and currently enjoys an excellent health and interest both in our city Barcelona and in the national and international music scene. An example of this good health is Alma Afrobeat Ensamble, the most visible face of Barcelona's Afrobeat, which will participate in the festival just before starting their fourth North American tour.
