Today we had a special guest for our breakfast club presentation; a company that specializes in crowdfunding, in collaboration with Barcelona Clúster Nàutic and Stockcrowd.
Sergi Pallarès, CEO and Co-founder of Stockcrowd
First, let’s give you a quick definition of crowdfunding and a little bit of context. “Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project by raising money from a large number of people, who each contribute a relatively small amount, typically via the Internet”. This practice has become popular in our increasingly digitalised world.
Thanks to Sergi, we learned that there are two types of crowdfunding; those that don't involve a monetary return and those that do.
In the first category, people can simply donate money or sign up for a reward like receiving a product or service afterward. In this type of crowdfunding, there is a strong emotional link to the project that is funded. Social campaigns are usually funded like this.
On the other hand, when funders sign up for a monetary return, whether it be for royalty, to make an investment or to offer a loan, they are looking for profits.
There are a lot of benefits to crowdfunding; here are the top 3 that stood out from the presentation.
Firstly, this type of funding gives your project a worldwide reach.
Secondly, your funders get involved with your project and will become its best promoters, which will help you raise even more money, or sell more in the medium-long term.
Thirdly, you will avoid risks.
On a traditional funding project, you begin by; developing an idea, which is then passed to production, then to testing on the market and in the end, you get feedback that makes you realize if your project was a success or a fail. On a crowdfunding system, it goes much faster as you first develop your idea and test it right away by raising a crowdfunding campaign. If no one is up to helping you raise money, you’ll know there is a high chance that your project could fail. If you can raise money, you’ll start producing and being successful; this system allows companies to innovate faster and to be more efficient.
Stockcrowd is a corporate software. It gives the company a tool to shoot a crowdfunding project on their website or social media.
All the projects have the CNMV stamp (Comisión Nacional Del Mercado de Valores/ National Stock Market Commission) which is a guarantee for investors.
Stockcrowd is collaborating with the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic (BCN) to raise money for nautical projects. All the projects that are carried out through Stockcrowd with the collaboration of the BCN get the BCN seal which is a symbol of guarantee and quality.
