Coworking spaces have become increasingly popular the past few years. They consist of productive environments, are easily accessible and offer a number of perks. However, they wouldn't be anywhere near as successful without the help of effective community managers. Community managers create the difference between a serviced office and a coworking space. In this article, we'll answer some of the most common questions about community managers.


What Exactly is a Community Manager?

Let's start with what great Community Managers are not. Delete from your brain any thoughts of Community Managers being a version of a receptionist. Rather, the community managers' role is to build relationships in the office. Their goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable and involved. Don’t worry, we’re going to go more in detail.

First and foremost, effective community managers are some of the most important faces representing their company. Often times you’ll see them giving tours of the cowork space to potential members or helping current members and fellow coworkers with whatever they need. 

As you could probably tell, one of the community manager’s responsibilities is being able to juggle multiple tasks at once, so they’re very organised. 

While being a passionate coworking advocate and multi-tasker, they must have top-notch networking skills so that they can connect members to each other and strengthen relationships. You can’t become a community manager if you don’t love helping others. It’s undeniable that community managers play a big role in the company.


What Makes Community Managers So Essential?

Effective community managers definitely have their work cut out for them, which is why they’re so essential. 

One of the main community managers’ responsibilities is being in charge of scheduling all of the events in the community. 

These events need to be appealing, relevant, and leave an impression on members to keep them coming back. 

The more people that attend the events, the more connections that are made and the community is strengthened. 

Being able to create this sense of unity in the coworking space is one of the main community managers’ responsibilities. The cowork will naturally appear more attractive to potential customers.

Good community managers bring a ton of energy and positivity that members will feed off of. This is important because you want members to enjoy coming to work and feel comfortable walking into the building. If you want to become a community manager, it’s important that you’re happy to help others and give members a positive experience. This ability will reflect good on the company. That means being able to lend a hand or even lend some advice to a fellow member seeking help at any given moment.


Does a CoWorking Space Really Need Community Managers?

The short answer: Yes!

You may be asking yourself why having a strong community is so important for a business? With all of the coworking spaces popping up to keep up with high demand, it might be hard deciding what coworking space is best for you. You don’t want to waste your time and money working at a place you don’t love. One of the community manager’s responsibilities is helping people see the importance of a strong community.

A good coworking space has members who are regularly involved, whether it be attending events or networking with other members. For new members, it should be made fairly easy to get involved with the community. This all stems back to the community managers’ main goals. 

It’s like a chain reaction because once new members start to involve themselves, the coworking space will become more and more integrated. All people like working in an environment where they feel they have a place and hold importance. The more normalized engaging with the other members becomes, the more popular a coworking space it will be.


Coworking spaces are so much more than just a place to get work done. They can be a place where you make lifelong connections, are constantly learning new things, and feel a sense of belonging. The Community manager role is key to a highly functioning coworking space and without them, they would not be nearly as popular or beneficial.
