Hey there, Saam Ali! Tell us about yourself?
Hi there, I’m Saam Ali, 35 years old (can you believe it!) and I was born in the Great city of Sheffield (known for its Steel and Snooker, if you know what that is).
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love hiking, traveling and sleeping in the wild. I love sculpting my 6-pack when I work out on the beach. I’m a Netflix binger. I LOVE producing videos and wish I had more time to do this for fun. I like to create things out of nothing. I thoroughly enjoy a good BBQ with friends.
… and professionally? What do you do?
I am the CEO of Pharmacy Mentor which is primarily a marketing agency for the pharmacy sector. We provide local, digital, direct and in-store marketing services for pharmacies in the UK and beyond.
Did you immediately find your dream job, or what did your journey to finding your career looked like?
It’s quite an interesting one really and way too long to explain in a short paragraph. But I’ll try.
I’m a pharmacist by trade and worked selling medicines to old people for around 7 years in the UK. After realizing that I couldn’t do this for the rest of my years, I quit my job and went to South America to realize my dream of solo travel. On the way, I became quite good at creating videos and blogging. This eventually led into a passion and after meeting some coders in Buenos Aires who introduced me to Tim Ferriss’s The 4-hour work week, I decided I was never going back to work in a pharmacy again.
When I got back to the UK, I needed to find a way to make money online. So, I decided to build a platform to help gamblers make money online in a risk-free way. After securing my first sale, I thought I was going to be a millionaire in 6 months and so I packed my bags and moved to Barcelona where I connected with a load of entrepreneurs and began refining the business.
18 months later when the business failed, I was left in Barcelona with no money. But, in that time, I had learned a sensational amount about online business and had become quite a proficient digital marketer. That’s when I decided to create my current company, Pharmacy Mentor, which is a full-scale digital marketing agency for pharmacies globally, and it is actually working. Phew.
Where is your favourite place to hang out in OneCoWork?
I don’t really have a favourite spot but you can usually find me on the 1st floor, usually zoned in and twitching from too much caffeine in my blood. I work a bit too much I think.
